'What I’d like YOU to know about ME!'
So who the heck is Peter J Jackson?
I am 46 years old and married with 2 children (Hey! I'm no Mr average though!) ; )
I have a passion for the creative be it web design, photography or clearing the colours on the pool table!
I have a Computer Science Degree and a diploma in Software Engineering.
Previous jobs include: web designer for Shelley College and Kirkburton Middle School in Huddersfield,
APC Networks based in Keighley and various other freelance projects.
I'd like to think I am loyal and dependable when it comes to friendship and diligent and dynamic when it comes to work.
I love my family and feel blessed to have such a marvellous and diverse circle of friends.
My Skills
I have over 8 years experience creating unique, usable and well-coded websites.
I work with Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Fireworks and hand code in (X)HTML and CSS. I have a working knowledge of PHP, MySql, Flash and JavaScript.
I have Extensive knowledge of web design standards, usability, accessibility and cross-browser compatibility and am capable of implementing the full web development cycle from concept, development and testing through to delivery.
Interests
Aside form computing and web design I enjoy various hobbies, pastimes and persuits:
Getting out on my bike is great for stress relief. I really enjoy being in the outdoors taking in all that fresh air. Some of my favourite memories are of my time in Ibiza cycling around the island. A perfect night would be watching the sunset then cycling around throughout the night enjoying the atmosphere and the warm night air, climaxing in watching the sunrise sat on a mountain top...bliss.
I have loved music since being a wee lad, I suppose you could describe my musical taste as eclectic. Everything from punk to classical; from the beats of Brazil to death metal. I don't think a day passes without listening to some band or other, and I'm always on the look out for a new and exciting sound. If you have something to recommend, do let me know!
I do like to get to the cinema as often as possible. My absolute favourite film is Apocalypse Now,
it has everything, even a stunning soundtrack!
What better way to spend a winter's Sunday afternoon than curled up on the couch watching an old black and white movie.
I started reading about astronomy in my teens and became fascinated with the heavens and all it contained. I started out with a pair of 10x50 binoculars but now own an Evostar 6 inch (150mm) refractor. It’s wonderful to view the planets and star clusters; you never forget the first time you see the rings of Saturn!
I was brought up watching the great Leeds team of the 70s: Bremner, Giles, Lorimer, Hunter etc. I still follow Leeds today but my passion is Brazilian football. Watching the old clips of Pele in the 1970 World Cup still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
I started playing pool on a Saturday morning at the Garden of Eden café in Bradford when I was about 15.
At 18 I played for the Fountain Inn at Eccleshill and won the Bradford singles title. I then played for the Bradford 'A' team.
On a trip to Chicago I played at 'Chris’s Billiards' where they filmed The Color of Money.
I spent an afternoon hustling the locals; I held my own for a while before ending up a few dollars down....wonderful memories.
I spent a lot of years playing snooker (top break - 120 ) and hoped I’d be good enough to earn a living from it, alas, it wasn’t to be.
I still greatly enjoy playing both games whether it’s entering the competitions at the Nes Café
in Amsterdam or taking on my son, Ben down the snooker hall.
Experiencing different cultures and meeting new people has always been important to me.
Some of my best friends are people that I have met while on my travels.
What a great feeling it is to be sat on a plane with all the expectation of what lies ahead. Even just landing on foreign soil is still a buzz.
The architecture, the landscape, food, the climate, the language, music, driving on the other side of the road! Travel is just brilliant!
There are so many places I’ve yet to see and so little time!
I relish the opportunity to get out with my camera. I’m still learning the tricks of the trade and hopefully one day will be an accomplished photographer.
I prefer shooting landscapes and architecture preferably with unusual lighting conditions.
I might not be the best photographer out there but I possess a keen eye and have quick fingers!
If I'm not involved in any of the above I'm also partial to current affairs, crosswords, theatre, quizzes, reading, socialising and fossil hunting....I think that just about covers it!
