If music be the food of love....I'll have a soupçon of Sham 69 please!
Songs that you might have passed you by
Here are a few songs that I love to listen to which a lot of people haven't heard or they have simply forgotten about. Have a listen, hopefully you'll enjoy them too. Also, if you know of any tunes that you think should be on the list, then use the contact form and let me know!
- Coma Girl - Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros
From the album Streetcore, the final work of Joe Strummer. This song is just so damn catchy, how can you not help but sing-along! - News At Ten - The Vapors
We've all heard Turning Japanese, but there were far more to this band than that. They were managed by Paul Weller's dad and Bruce Foxton. This track is superb.
- Something That I Said - The Ruts
One of my favourite punk bands and would surely have been massive if not for the death of their frontman Malcolm Owen in 1980. This song is just packed full of punk energy.
- Boredom - Magazine
This is a slightly tongue in cheek version of the Buzzcocks classic...although Howard Devoto did write it so he's entitled to sing it as he sees fit!
- Ghost Rider - Suicide
Suicide were unique and ahead of their time. Punk? techno? industrial? This is Soft Cell on crack and banished to Hell.
- Aerodynamik - Kraftwerk
What an amazing band and hugely influential. This track is awesome...crank up your speakers and listen to it slowly build up into a frenzy.
- Renegades of Funk - Rage Against The Machine
Zack de la Rocha's punk rap vocals on this song are brilliant. What a catchy number dude!
- Baba O'Riley - The Who
More experimentation here by The Who. I find it both powerful and profound.
- Being Boiled - The Human League
Maybe the first electronic single produced in the UK? (1978). A much darker sound than the chart hits of The Human League 'Mk2'.
- Angel - Sarah McLachlan
Just a beautiful and haunting song...pass the kleenex mate.
Who's playing where and when...
